Colorado Public Utilities Commission

Your gas bills have been climbing. And right now, regulators are deciding whether they'll keep climbing for decades to come.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is reviewing a Gas Infrastructure Plan that could lock businesses like yours into paying for billions in new gas infrastructure over the next 30-70 years—while cleaner, potentially cheaper alternatives get sidelined.

But there's good news: You can influence this decision.

What's At Stake

  • More rate increases: New infrastructure = higher bills for you
  • Decades of debt: New pipelines have 30-72 year lifespans you'll pay for
  • Missed opportunities: Every dollar spent on gas expansion delays investment in clean alternatives
  • Your bottom line: Money going to infrastructure guaranteed profits instead of your business growth

What We're Asking

Please join us in advocating for the PUC to:

✅ Stop expanding the expensive gas system
✅ Prioritize clean heat alternatives
✅ Provide information about cleaner options
✅ Meet Colorado's climate targets
✅ Engage businesses in planning decisions

Dear Commissioners,

Good Business Colorado (GBC) is a grassroots organization of values-driven business owners across the state working together to build a prosperous economy, equitable communities, and a sustainable environment. Our members understand that Colorado’s economic future depends on reliable, affordable, and clean energy systems — and that continuing to expand fossil fuel infrastructure threatens all three.

That’s why we urge the Public Utilities Commission to take decisive action to accelerate Colorado’s clean energy transition by:
→ Halting the expansion of the gas system and limiting new gas customer hookups where feasible
→ Prioritizing meaningful analysis and investment in clean heat alternatives
→ Requiring utilities to provide proactive, transparent information about gas alternatives so that businesses can make informed, forward-looking decisions
→ Holding utilities accountable for meeting Colorado’s clean heat targets — including the 22% emissions reduction by 2030
→ Ensuring meaningful engagement with local businesses, governments, and communities in long-term energy planning

Colorado businesses deserve energy systems that strengthen our economy and advance our climate goals. Continued expansion of costly gas infrastructure does neither. Instead, we must invest in solutions that support innovation, resilience, and a sustainable future for all Coloradans.

Thank you for considering this input on behalf of Colorado’s business community and ratepayers.

Sincerely,
Doni Clemons
