Sign On: Stop the destruction of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt

Sign MoveOn’s petition and demand the Department of the Interior stop the Trump administration from selling drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Trump administration has finalized its plan to open up Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge–the largest remaining stretch of wilderness in the United States–to drilling for oil and gas for the first time. The Interior Department announced it will now begin preparations to auction off drilling leases.

It is unacceptable that to pursue profit the Trump administration is allowed to irreparably damage the land that is home to Indigenous communities in Northern Alaska, who not only consider the region sacred, but also depend upon the local ecosystem for their subsistence living. The refuge is also home to vulnerable wildlife that are already struggling because of climate change.

For 60 years, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has been safe from damaging practices. Now, with Donald Trump pushing his destructive “energy dominance” agenda, the U.S. Department of the Interior must step in to do what the agency is tasked with doing: protecting and conserving our nation’s natural resources.

Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt must act immediately to reverse the Trump administration’s plan to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.

That’s why we’re asking you to sign MoveOn’s petition demanding the Department of the Interior stop the Trump administration from selling drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
