Jeff Bezos and Amazon

Amazon is the latest culprit in the anti-immigrant hysteria. Recently, workers charged Amazon guilty of selling ICE technology used to detain and deport immigrant families.

In an open letter, employees condemn the dangerous facial recognition software, Rekognition, provided to police and law enforcement agencies like ICE. They draw parallels to how IBM’s tech was used in the 1940s to help Nazis and make it loud and clear: the time to act is now.

Add your name to condemn Amazon: Your tech for ICE is not welcome here.

In mid-July, organizers from immigrant-led movement, Cosecha, successfully blocked the doors to an Amazon store in NYC demanding Amazon put immigrant families over profit. Today, they lead thousands of community members across the country to abolish ICE. We are in a political moment when there is no such thing as remaining neutral. Activists are attacking ICE on all fronts from calling on mayors to stop cooperating with ICE to getting tech companies to cancel their multi-million dollar contracts.

Amazon is next. We need your help to condemn them.

Just last week, the ACLU reported that Rekognition misidentified 28 Congress members as people who have been arrested of a crime. All of them were people of color. Allowing Amazon’s tech to continue to function would further criminalize black and brown communities. We need to force companies like Amazon, that have become so commonplace in our lives, to take a moral stand and stop perpetrating human rights abuses.

Your platform is actively building the power of law enforcement agencies like ICE to abuse immigrants. It is time to take a moral stand to choose immigrants’ lives over profit. In solidarity with all Amazon employees, we call on you to: 1. Stop selling facial recognition services to law enforcement agencies like ICE 2. Stop providing infrastructure to Amazon partners who enable ICE 3. Implement strong transparency and accountability measures, that include enumerating which law enforcement agencies and companies supporting law enforcement agencies are using Amazon services, and how.
