Sign the petition: Demand Congress continue to defer student loan debt until there is an accessible and functioning vaccine for COVID-19

Congress

Student loan payment deferral ends in September and there is still no vaccine for the novel coronavirus. Until there is a vaccine, people across the nation will continue to experience job loss, reduced hours, furloughs and pay cuts, making the prospect of resuming student loan payments in only two months quite daunting.

The soonest we can anticipate a functioning vaccine is the end of the year, and even that is an unlikely, optimistic date. While unprecedented efforts are being made to fast-track the coronavirus vaccine, it took more than 20 years to develop the polio vaccine.

Without a safe vaccine that is widely accessible we cannot expect the economy and working conditions to improve in any substantial way to allow for people to be financially secure enough to resume student loan payments.

Sign the petition: Congress must extend the student loan payment deferment period until there is a fully functioning widely accessible Coronavirus vaccine.

We are writing to demand that student loan payments continue to be deferred until there is a fully functioning widely accessible vaccine for the novel coronavirus. As long as people are still getting sick and dying from COVID-19, the nation will continue to experience widespread job loss and financial insecurity. Student loan payments must wait until after the pandemic is over and the nation has recovered.
