Private prison operators profit from the mass incarceration epidemic that disproportionately impacts communities of color. When a loved one is ripped from their community and thrown in these privately operated jails-- loved ones experience the pain while companies collect checks.
Checks companies like Core Civic and the GEO Group cash at banks like Citizens Bank, Regions Bank, First Tennessee Bank, Synovus Bank and Pinnacle Bank.
We MUST stop these regional banks from financing private prisons.
Large private prison companies like CoreCivic and the GEO Group benefit from the Prison Industrial Complex, or an industry that has profited off of the aggressive police tactics and discriminatory laws that target communities of color.
Today the Trump administration awards large private prison operators like CoreCivic and the GEO Group with contracts that enable them to house the victims of the presidents racist and xenophobic anti-immigration agenda. As a result, private prisons house over 70 percent of the individuals detained by ICE officials.
Regional banks need to stop financing an industry that is fueled by racism and hatred.
Both CoreCivic and the GEO Group use these regional banks to finance the building of new facilities, acquiring smaller companies, and paying for day to day operations. These banks are using customers' money to expand companies that profit off of the destruction of communities of color.
Citizens, Regions, First Tennessee, Synovus, and Pinnacle Banks currently enable an industry that actively separates mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers from their communities and other loved ones. Any line of credit or loan utilized by private prison operators helps further destroys communities of color.
Refusal to end partnerships with private prison operators like CoreCivic and the GEO Group reveal that these banks are complicit in the deplorable operations of the companies.
