Senator Susan Collins
With her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Republican Senator Susan Collins betrayed her constituents, her supposed pro-choice politics, and every single person who may need access to abortion care in the United States in the coming decades.
Senator Collins vehemently denied that Kavanaugh would consider overturning Roe v. Wade, citing his commitment to respecting precedent in her Senate floor speech before the vote.
Now, just like abortion rights advocates predicted, all precedent flew out the window in Kavanaugh’s dissent in the Supreme Court’s decision on Thursday to grant a stay against implementation of legislation that would have effectively outlawed access to abortion in Louisiana.
Judicial experts and abortion rights advocates alike emphasized just how dangerous Brett Kavanaugh would be for Roe v. Wade and future abortion rulings if he were confirmed, but Senator Collins ignored all of the evidence.
The senator’s betrayal doesn’t stop there. Collins also ignored thousands upon thousands of constituent letters and phone calls and office visits in Maine and Washington, D.C.
Kavanaugh’s dissent is an ominous nod to what might be coming next. We are very likely in for years—decades, even—of extreme anti-abortion opinions from the Supreme Court. Susan Collins could have stopped this, but she didn’t. She needs to take responsibility.
Sign now to denounce Susan Collins for foolishly believing that Brett Kavanaugh wouldn’t vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

When you voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, you said he wouldn’t overturn Roe v. Wade out of his respect for precedent. You were wrong. Now, you need to take responsibility for enabling and elevating Kavanaugh’s relentless anti-abortion crusade.
