As U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos has repeatedly attacked protections for survivors of sexual violence, LGBTQ+ students’ rights, access to public education, and more.

Now, she has been held in contempt of court and slapped with a $100,000 fine for continuing to collect loan payments from students who were defrauded by the now-closed for-profit Corinthian Colleges. The judge even threatened DeVos with jail time for this offense.

The chairman of the House Education & Labor Committee wants DeVos to testify about this ongoing issue, but there's no word yet whether she will answer the subpoena. Given how the Trump administration has treated other subpoenas since Democrats won back the House, it is doubtful she will bother to show up.

Betsy DeVos should never have been confirmed as Education Secretary, and her conduct since taking office has been disgraceful. It is time for the House to start impeachment proceedings.
