Right now, our representatives have a monumentally important decision to make: will they side with President Trump and his dangerous incitement of violence to overturn a democratic election?

Or will they act in defense of our democracy -- and send a clear, bipartisan message that Trump’s conduct is reprehensible by swiftly voting to impeach?

Common Cause is calling for Trump’s immediate impeachment for his incitement of insurrection against the U.S. government. We also urge the Vice President and Trump’s Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

He must be removed by any legal means. Because even though President-elect Biden will take office at noon on January 20, as voters decided in November -- the dangerous, authoritarian forces behind January 6th’s violent insurrection will remain with us.

That means Congress has to draw a clear red line that his behavior warrants impeachment.

The best thing Congress can do right now -- to move our country forward -- is send a strong signal by holding President Trump accountable for his incitement of violence and passing bipartisan articles of impeachment. If convicted in the Senate, Trump can be forever barred from holding public office again.
