Tell NC lawmakers: Put people above politics in the 2026 legislative session
North Carolina legislative leaders
WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS:
Last year, the Republican-controlled North Carolina legislature left town without passing a new comprehensive budget, failing the people of our state[1].
The lack of a comprehensive state budget means our communities are struggling without desperately needed funds, even as many North Carolinians face mounting economic challenges.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump and politicians in Washington, D.C., are attempting to impose alarming anti-voter policies that would undermine our freedom to cast a ballot.
North Carolina lawmakers are back in Raleigh this spring for the 2026 legislative session. Sign your name now to our call for the legislature to put people above politics and to stand up for our rights. Tell legislators to:
- pass a budget that meets the needs of the people and communities of our state;
- provide adequate funding for our state’s election system;
- raise pay for experienced county elections directors who help keep voters safe and our votes secure;
- increase the number of days counties have to count eligible ballots;
- reject any demands from Donald Trump and D.C. politicians to restrict our freedom to vote (such as banning mail-in voting or ending voter registration drives);
- support a state-level Voting Rights Act that can safeguard all of us from attacks on federal voting protections.
Your voice has power! Sign our petition calling for a pro-democracy “People’s Agenda” in the North Carolina legislative session.

As legislators, you have the responsibility to serve your constituents in the People's House.
One of your chief duties as a legislative body is to pass a budget that meets the needs of the people of our state. It is deeply shameful that North Carolina is the only state in the nation without a comprehensive new budget. That must change during this year’s legislative session.
It's also critically important that you ensure the rights of all North Carolinians are respected and that our freedom to vote is protected.
We call upon the North Carolina legislature to:
• enact a budget that provides much-needed support for our communities, including adequate funding for schools, infrastructure, public services, and elections;
• raise pay for experienced county elections directors who help keep voters safe and our votes secure;
• increase the number of days counties have to count eligible ballots;
• reject any demands from Donald Trump and D.C. politicians to impose harmful barriers to the ballot box (such as banning mail-in voting or ending voter registration drives);
• support a state-level Voting Rights Act that can safeguard all of us from attacks on federal voting protections;
• conduct this legislative session with full transparency, ample opportunities for meaningful debate, and robust public input.
It’s time to put the people of our state ahead of party politics.
