On Tuesday, April 28, Donald Trump's Department of Justice (DOJ) succeeded in indicting former FBI Director James Comey on highly specious grounds over a social media post Comey made calling for Donald Trump's removal from office.
On that same day, Donald Trump's Federal Communications Commission (FCC), challenged the station licenses of broadcast network ABC, primarily because of a joke that late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel made regarding Donald and Melania Trump.
These are just two of the many actions that the Trump administration has taken to use the federal government to attack people who Donald Trump views as his political enemies.
While the Trump administration's attacks are likely to fail in the courts, Congress also needs to step up its oversight of an Executive Branch that is clearly abusing the legal system and engaging in vindictive governance at the behest of the President of the United States.
Now, we all know that Congress will never take this step as long as it is controlled by Republicans. As such, I have put together a petition urging Democrats in Congress to make it a high priority to, once they take power of at least one branch of Congress following the 2026 midterm elections, investigate and expose the Trump administration's weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump's perceived political enemies.
