Donald Trump will not be acquitted by the Senate. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: "you cannot be acquitted if you did not have a trial. You don't have a trial if you don't have witnesses and documentation." What happened instead was a sham & a cover-up.

And the House cannot be complicit in this corruption. Donald Trump is scheduled to give his State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 4th in the House chamber. There is nothing he wants more than to gloat in the chamber that voted to impeach him in December.

But delivering a speech in the House chamber is not a right—it's a privilege the president must earn, and a privilege that the House Speaker can revoke. The president must give a State of the Union address, but there's no requirement that it be delivered in person.

From Thomas Jefferson to Woodrow Wilson, the State of the Union was delivered in writing. That's because Jefferson felt that a president giving a speech to both houses of Congress was too "king-like." Only since the advent of radio & television has it been a media spectacle.

Speaker Pelosi must rescind the invitation for Trump to appear on February 4th, denying him that opportunity. One year ago, Pelosi delayed the State of the Union address because Trump had shut down the government - so there is precedent to do so. And she must do so again.

No matter what happens in the Senate, Trump will always be remembered as a president who was impeached. He does not deserve the privilege of giving a speech in the House chamber.
