SIGN THE SOLIDARITY PLEDGE!
IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President

Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - UE Union (IGWC-UE) has announced a strike deadline of Monday, September 26. If Indiana University Bloomington bosses fail to meet the union’s demands before then, workers will hold a strike vote. We have their back, so it is time for us to get ready to pledge our support!
Pledge
I believe the right to organize a union and collectively bargain is a fundamental civil right.
I demand that Indiana University Bloomington stop union busting and recognize Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - UE.
I will stand in solidarity with Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - UE in one or more ways:
- joining the solidarity rally at 11 AM on Wed. 9/28 at the Purdue Memorial Union Arch
- joining the solidarity caravan at 9 AM on Fri. 9/30 at Levee Plaza, West Lafayette
- donating to their strike fund
- sharing this pledge on social media
Background
For more than a year, Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - UE Union (IGWC-UE), a coalition of graduate students employed at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), have been fighting for the right to form a union and collectively bargain with the IUB Administration over wages, benefits, and working conditions.
This summer, IGWC-UE won significant victories when IUB Administration agreed to raise stipends from $18,000 to $22,000 per year and waive some mandatory administrative fees. Along the way, the IUB Faculty Senate voted overwhelmingly to support the strikers, and local media have endorsed their demands.
But IGWC-UE’s work is far from over. On Monday, September 26, it will vote to resume its strike for union recognition and still better working conditions. The battle will be tough: IUB Administration has threatened to fire strikers and discipline faculty who support them.
Greater Lafayette Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Purdue, and Purdue Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), stand in solidarity with IGWC-UE. To show our support, we will hold a solidarity rally at the Purdue campus and a caravan to the picket line in Bloomington to support IGWC demands. We invite all workers, students, and citizens of Purdue and Greater Lafayette to join us.
The rally will take place Wednesday, September 28 at 11 am under the Purdue Memorial Union Arch, and the caravan will gather to leave Friday, September 30 at 9 am from Levee Plaza in West Lafayette.
