Stand with Stamford Protestors, Protect Democratic Rights!

City of Stamford

On August 8th, 2020, activists marching for police reform and accountability in Stamford were attacked by Stamford Police officers. Footage from that day shows violence from the police department aimed at curtailing the protestors’ First Amendment rights. While bringing focus to the death of Steven Barrier, who died in SPD custody, five protestors and one passerby were given charges that range from misdemeanor breach of peace to inciting a riot, which is a potential felony.

These charges come in a context where dozens of new anti-protest laws have been introduced in states around the country. Along these lines, over 10,000 Black Lives Matter supporters have been arrested since last summer. No one should be criminalized for exercising their Constitutional rights.

Drop all Charges!

If the charges against the Stamford protestors are not dropped, the city will set a disturbing precedent that threatens to diminish freedom of speech and other democratic rights. Working people, students, social justice activists, and all supporters of democratic rights must stand against this injustice!

Please support the campaign to defend those arrested and add your name to this petition, as well as get updates on upcoming solidarity actions, statements, and other ways of getting involved! No Justice, No Peace!
