#StandDownSam end the promotion of racism
Podbean, Apple, Spotify & Google
Sam Newman is at it again. Despite being sacked from Channel 9, forced to make a public apology and pay a six-figure settlement for various racist remarks, Sam Newman continues to promote racist and white supremacist ideas on his podcast.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Sam Newman went on a racist, anti-voice tirade. Among other things he mocked Welcome to Country and contested the existence of First Nations history and culture
This year we have seen many AFL players take public anti-racist action to counter the racism they experience daily. This takes incredible strength and should be celebrated. Instead, former AFL footballer, Sam Newman continues to use his racism to oppress and discredit First Nations people and people of colour across the country.
For these corporations to take notice we need a huge number of people to sign this petition. We are calling on four companies, Podbean, Apple, Spotify and Google to pull Sam Newman’s podcast from their services for good!
We need our communities and extended networks to sign on in solidarity with all First Nations people and people of colour to stop the promotion of and profiting from this racist hate.

We, the undersigned, are calling on you to remove Sam Newman's podcast 'You Cannot Be Serious' from your services due to consistent racism, hate speech and discrimination that is in clear violation of your terms of use. The topics that are regularly discussed in this podcast are in direct violation of your terms of use, promoting racist, white supremacist, misogynistic and transphobic views.
Specifically, we would draw your attention to episode 210, part 1: "Non-History in Schools", published on July 26, 2023. In this episode Mr Newman derides the acknowledgement of traditional owners at events in Australia and goes on to claim that indigenous cultures have no meaningful history worth learning about, Australia's post-colonial history is the only history of importance and that despite being inhabitants of this country for over 50,000 years that Aboriginal Australians may not have been the very first inhabitants and therefore should not be regarded as First Nations people. These are racist, hateful, white supremacist views intended to oppress First Nations people by erasing their history and questioning their existence.
Mr Newman has an extensive history of promoting these views. In recent years Mr Newman's racist, white supremacist views have resulted in him (on separate occasions) being sacked from a major Australian TV network, making a public apology and paying a settlement. This followed decades of racism targeted at First Nations People and people of colour, infamously appearing on national television in blackface to imitate a First Nations football player in 1999.
Nobody should be able to profit from the promotion of racism and hate. By allowing this podcast to continue to be hosted and/or distributed by your service you are enabling the promotion of these views. Additionally, hosting or allowing the distribution of this podcast via your service creates an association between the views espoused by Mr Newman and your company.
We are calling on your company to demonstrate that the users of your service must not only abide by your terms of service but that you do not condone the promotion of these bigoted, racist, white supremacist views and remove Sam Newman's podcast from your services.
