Starbucks Customers Petition Howard Schultz Not To Risk Re-Electing Trump with Independent Presidential Campaign

Howard Schultz + Starbucks

We, the undersigned Starbucks customers call on Starbuck’s Chairman Emeritus, Howard Schultz, to drop his plan to launch an independent presidential campaign that, we believe, would sharply increase the odds that Donald Trump would be re-elected President in 2020.

We ask Schultz to consider that in two of the last five presidential elections, votes siphoned off to independent or third party campaigns decided the election for Republicans.

Many of us vividly remember how in 2000, votes for Ralph Nader swung Florida, and the election, to George W. Bush, who won the state by 550 votes. That election led directly to the Iraq War — and ultimately the Syrian Civil War, ISIS, the Syrian migration crisis in Europe, 8 years of doing nothing on Climate Change, and most likely to the Great Recession.

A little over two years ago, we remember that 131,954 votes for Jill Stein, combined the votes 2012 Obama supporters who stayed at home, gave Trump victories Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan– states that he won by a combined total of only 77,000 votes – and made him president.

As citizens, and Starbucks customers, we believe that too much is at stake for America and the world to allow a risky independent campaign to put Donald Trump back in the White House.

Starbucks is a company that prides itself on being socially conscious. And it is a company that employs and serves millions of progressive, socially conscious Americans.

We call on Starbucks management and board to ask their colleague Howard Schultz to drop his risky plan and pledge at once that he will not run for president of the United States as an independent.
