STOP FRANCISCO'S DEPORTATION

Chicago ICE Field Office Director

Sign the petition TODAY: call on ICE to stop Francisco Panuco's deportation!

Help us collect 1000 signatures by June 23!

6/12/2023 Update: Thanks to overwhelming community support we were able to win Francisco more time. He has two more weeks until ICE deports him. Unfortunately the ICE Chicago Field Office has denied our request to grant him a year to argue his case while at home with his family. This denial flies in the face of Secretary Mayorkas' stated priorities to ensure family and community reunification. We are escalating our request to Secretary Mayorkas and the ICE HQ in DC. We will not allow ICE to terrorize Francisco's family and traumatize communities!

On May 31 ICE officials detained Francisco at home in Chicago and have expedited his deportation. He is scheduled to be deported at the end of June. We are demanding that ICE use their discretion to stop his deportation and allow Francisco to return to his 7-year-old daughter and his home in Belmont Cragin.

Chicago has been Franciso's home for over 18 years. He has raised his 7 year old daughter in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood and is an active member of his community. Most of Francisco's family lives in Chicago, and his sister is a longtime member of Centro de Trabajadores Unidos. Francisco and his daughter share a special bond. He is usually the parent who picks her up from school and cares for her in the evening. Francisco is also the primary breadwinner for his family. Francisco's deportation would devastate his daughter and cause extreme financial and emotional distress.

Francisco was dragged out of the shower by ICE at 6am in the morning on May 31. Since then, he has not had the chance to see an immigration judge or argue his case. His family spent days wondering about his whereabouts. This is cruel and inhumane. Francisco deserves the opportunity to argue his case and should be able to do that outside of ICE detention.

Francisco has had DUIs in the past, none of which involved any other person or bodily harm to himself or others. His last DUI arrest was in 2020, when he was found asleep in his car. Since then he has stopped drinking and regularly attends alcoholics anonymous. ICE must review his case and take into account the many mitigating circumstances and Francisco's strong community ties.

We, the undersigned, urge the Director of the Chicago ICE Field Office to consider the many positive factors in Franciso's case and use their discretion to grant Francisco's stay of removal request.
