Stop High Trees Primary Currumbin Valley Development
High Trees Primary
The future Gold Coast needs your help!
Many Currumbin Valley residents are fighting to stop an unsuitable and unnecessary proposed development from proceeding in the heart of Currumbin Valley.
We need your help.
Despite obvious problems with the proposal, the developers are resolute, and the community is anxious to leave the outcome just in the hands of Councils planning process.
What is the High Trees Primary Development?
Recent purchasers of 940 Currumbin Creek Road, Currumbin Valley have applied for a Material Change of Use to turn the quiet rural residential setting into a high-end private school - High Trees Primary (HTP).
You may have seen the NO placards outside 940, or the slick marketing on Insta and FB ads about it? HTP has recently lodged a Development Application (DA) application with Council. The developers are keen to give the impression that the school development and the school itself is already approved. This is NOT the case. The DA has not been approved, nor has an application been lodged for school status, and therefore the school has not been approved.
What's the problem?
As the Gold Coast faces growing pains, many developers eye off "assets" like our Valleys as being "perfect" for their developments, with scant regard or respect for the impact on local residents, the nature and makeup of our community, zoning, environment, or the appropriateness of their ambitions.
Currumbin Valley does not need another school. We already have a lovely primary school a little deeper in the Valley, that functions as a community hub. There is also another equally terrific primary school at the other end of Currumbin Creek Road.
Surrounding neighbours are deeply opposed - concerned at the dramatic changes envisaged, the negative impact on our daily lives and our cherished Valley. Add the additional traffic chaos that would inevitably arise with the extra cars at the proposed location - a high use entrance into a steep driveway, directly opposite three driveways and situated at the end of a series of tight, blind corners.
Despite initially promising concerned residents a "light touch, low impact" development prioritising environmental concerns – the problematic nature of the site, combined with the ambitions of the developers, has very quickly escalated into severe earthworks and tree destruction. Small pods as classrooms now double size, double story buildings, that require DA consideration and relaxation on building height.
The development will significantly alter the nature of Currumbin Valley, a cherished RURAL setting – quiet, green space, protected environment, country roads – we are the lungs, the green open spaces and a key part of the character of the Gold Coast that the city needs to preserve and protect as the city grows.

Dear Marj,
We request you withdraw your plans for the development of a private school at 940 Currumbin Creek Road in Currumbin Valley.
Our Valleys are crucial community assets, and the planned development is not needed or wanted by many in the local community.
The development will have a significant negative impact on the nature of the local area, exacerbated by the clear unsuitability of the proposed location.
Our Valleys are a defining feature of our Gold Coast communities, not an asset to be leveraged for personal ambition, no matter how well intended.
