Stop SEIU Local 1's Unjust Discipline for Protected Sick Time
SEIU Local 1 Secretary Treasurer, Efrain Elias and SEIU Local 1 President, Genie Kastrup
SEIU Local 1's Management has refused to rescind discipline for Char Goolsby, a 5 year external organizer in Detroit, who has been suffering from an autoimmune disease in addition to a recent battle with cancer. In late October, Char sought FMLA (protected leave under the Family Medical Leave Act) for her autoimmune disease and a week later she received discipline for "excessive/patterned absenteeism" despite her FMLA being retroactive.
We don't understand why management is blatantly disregarding federal protections for employees with medical conditions and choosing to discipline rather than support employees going through a difficult time.
Stand with Char while she fights for her health and call on SEIU Local 1 Managment to start acting like a union by supporting their dedicated staff and respecting FMLA!
Today is Char, tomorrow it could be you!

Rescind the unjust discipline of Char Goolsby immediately. We expect better from a Union employer and call on you to act with compassion and to honor FMLA protections.
