Stop student hunger

Chancellor Wilcox

About 40% of students in the UC system will face food insecurity during their college experience.

This could mean everything from not knowing where your next meal is coming from to eating foods that are not nutritious enough to be considered a meal because that is what you can afford. College campuses throw away about 142 pounds of food per student per year, so we definitely have the resources we need to feed everyone.

That is why we want UCR to commit to Zero Hunger which would mean knowing who is hungry, where there are under utilized resources and how to get those resources to the students who need it.

Food insecurity should not be an issue students are worrying about. With the large amounts of food waste college campuses produce, there is more than enough to go around!

That is why I am urging you to commit UCR to Zero Hunger which means knowing who is hungry, where there are underutilized resources, and figuring out how best to get those resources to students who need them.
