Petition to Commissioners Court: "Withhold Tax Rebates from Tesla”
Travis County Commissioners Court

It’s no accident. Tesla chose to build its Gigafactory just outside Austin city limits, and then pushed through a state law—bought and paid for by Elon Musk—that shields the factory from the city’s environmental regulations. Now, Tesla is operating with fewer rules and less accountability than nearly any other business in the region.
The Travis County Commissioners Court does have the tools to change that. They could pause or withhold property tax rebates to force Tesla to clean up its act, and hold it accountable for breaking environmental protections and worker safety laws.
We’re urging the Commissioners to use their power now.

We, the undersigned residents of Travis County, call on the Commissioners Court to immediately halt any further tax rebate payments to Tesla under the Chapter 381 agreement.
Tesla has repeatedly violated the terms and spirit of its agreement with the County:
-- It promised to be a good community partner, yet has shown a blatant disregard for local and state laws.
--It engages in unsafe labor practices and appears to ignore basic workplace protections.
--It has polluted our water and air, setting a dangerous precedent if left unchecked.
These violations are not minor. They reflect a pattern of corporate misconduct unworthy of public subsidies. The County must not reward bad behavior with millions of taxpayer dollars.
We demand that the Commissioners Court enforce accountability. Do not disburse tax incentives to Tesla until it fully complies with the law and its contractual obligations. Travis County residents deserve better.
