This unconstitutional abuse of power has impacted not only immigrants but also American citizens, as seen in the case of Abrego Garcia and many others. Donald Trump has made public statements suggesting that due process—the cornerstone of our justice system—should not apply to everyone. In one such statement, he wrote:
“We cannot give everyone a trial, because to do so would take, without exaggeration, 200 years. How can we “Make America Great Again” when the President himself declares that some people, even citizens, are not deserving of their constitutional rights? Stripping individuals of due process does not make our nation safer. It undermines the very principles on which this country was built and sets a dangerous precedent that allows leaders to trample rights in the service of political gain.
We must not remain silent. We must stand up and speak out—loudly, clearly, and unapologetically—against these abuses of power.
