Stop the Attack on IPERS & Public Pensions

GOVERNOR’S DOGE TASKFORCE RECOMMENDING GUTTING IPERS AND PUBLIC PENSIONS!

Eliminating IPERS and other public pensions would be a devastating blow to Iowa’s workforce and economy. For decades, these pensions have provided a secure retirement for public servants, including teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses, and social workers, who dedicate their lives to serving our communities.

This would put the retirement security of more than 470,000 Iowans at risk and make it harder to recruit and retain workers to these important professions. Gutting this system would break yet another promise to workers and further damage Iowa’s already struggling economy, which is ranked dead last in the nation.

Instead of the Governor’s DOGE task force threatening retirement security, we should be taking steps to strengthen Iowa’s workers.

I am writing to express deep concern about the potential elimination of IPERS and other public pension systems in Iowa. Such a move would deal a devastating blow to many dedicated public servants and our state’s workforce and economy.

For decades, these pensions have provided a secure and dignified retirement for the public servants who keep our communities safe, educated, and healthy, including teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses, and social workers. These individuals dedicate their careers to serving Iowa, and they deserve the retirement security they were promised.

Dismantling IPERS would not only break that promise but also further destabilize Iowa’s economy, which already ranks last in the nation. At a time when we should be investing in our workforce and strengthening the middle class, this would be a step in the wrong direction.

Instead of allowing the DOGE task force to jeopardize retirement security for thousands of Iowans, I urge you to protect and strengthen our public pension systems. Iowa’s workers deserve better.
