Stop the Ban on Energy Choice

The Massachusetts Legislature

For 25 years, Massachusetts residents have been able to shop the market and decide which electric company deserves their business. Half a million Bay State households have picked a supplier that best fits their sustainability and/or budgetary needs, including purchasing 100% renewable energy products.

The Senate and House have again proposed legislation that would close that market and force customers to buy their electricity from their one local utility.

Oppose monopoly control of our power grid and the Massachusetts electric market. Sign the petition and protect your energy choice!

WE THE UNDERSIGNED CALL ON OUR STATE ELECTED OFFICIALS TO PROTECT THE COMPETITIVE ELECTRIC MARKET IN MASSACHUSETTS AND REMOVE THE BAN LANGUAGE FROM ALL PROPOSED LEGISLATION.

I deserve a choice.
Massachusetts residents should not be limited to using only one service determined by the government. Customers deserve to choose which company supplies their electricity, how clean their energy is and where the electricity is generated. I deserve to shop multiple offers and save money by locking in a low fixed rate during off peak seasons or taking advantage of a variable rate when prices drop. I deserve to shop and choose the company that offers the best service and products that suit my unique energy needs. Retail choice empowers customers to have control over their energy bills, whereas utility ratepayers have no options when rates increase.

Competition drives innovation.
Without competition driving companies to innovate, improvements in services and products would only be dictated when the government regulates the utility company into doing better. Competition drives innovation and investments in new technologies and advancements in the market. This benefits the consumer and drives an industry forward, rather than just meeting the regulatory status quo.

Renewable energy deserves a fighting chance.
Right now, more than three quarters of the competitive electric supply available for Massachusetts customers to choose from on the market is 100% renewable. If the ban on this market passes, more than 20% of renewable generation purchased by Massachusetts households will be removed from the market and those customers will be forced back to their local utility monopoly.

Protect my energy choice. Oppose all legislation that bans competitive electric markets in Massachusetts, including S.2106 and H.3196.
