As a Virginia resident, I urge you to hold a public hearing and reject approval for the proposed hybrid electric-gas compressor station in Chesapeake.

This facility – proposed by Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) to power AI-driven paper production for Smurfit WestRock – would tie directly into the Virginia Reliability Project, a massive fracked gas pipeline expansion that threatens our environment, public health, and climate future.

The compressor station would be located in close proximity to homes, schools, child care centers, and places of worship, putting families and vulnerable populations at risk of exposure to toxic air pollution, methane leaks, and the long-term impacts of fossil fuel infrastructure.

Virginia communities deserve clean air, a safe environment, and real climate solutions — not more polluting gas infrastructure that locks us into decades of fossil fuel dependence.

We call on the SCC to:

-Hold a public hearing so residents can speak out,
-Reject the compressor station project, and
-Protect Virginia communities from the dangers of gas infrastructure.

Please take swift action to stop this harmful project and stand with residents across the Commonwealth who are calling for clean energy and environmental justice.
