Call Gov. Ivey at 334-242-7100 with the following message:

"Hi. My name is [your name]. I am calling to encourage Gov. Ivey to halt all plans to execute Pastor Gregory Hunt on June 10, 2025. Gregory ministers to the men on Alabama's death row - his own actions make him as effective an anyone in ministering to others. He meets them where they are at. If executed the men on Alabama's death row will lose their pastor. We believe in accountability, but the State of Alabama can hold Gregory accountable, ensure public safety, AND recognize the human capacity to change without killing him. Thank you."

Talking Points About this Case:

1. Mr. Hunt has ineffective assistance of counsel claims at trial and at the sentencing phase in part because the State of Alabama provides insufficient funding for the compensation of capital defense attorneys.

2. Mr. Hunt had a traumatic childhood due to a violent and abusive father and foster care placements however no witnesses were presented to support this issue which also promoted early onset of drug use.

3. The execution method to be used, nitrogen gas asphyxiation is neither quick nor painless, but agonizing and painful as was demonstrated at the executions last year. It amounts to cruel and unusual punishment which is barred by the U.S. Constitution.

4. Alabama ought to delay all executions to allow for a thorough study of its capital punishment process and consider the serious objections raised as to how it administers the death penalty.

More About Gregory Hunt.

Greg Hunt leads a small congregation. Most pastors of churches do. The only difference is that Greg’s group gathers each week on death row. Each person that looks back at Greg has been to hell and back, most of the time because of their own actions. Of course, Greg is also in that number. Such a location makes him as effective as anyone in ministering to his brothers. The holiness that he brings to the group helps people find the courage to find their own holiness. He demands more than just survival. “God wants us to thrive wherever we are.” Some of the illustrations that Greg uses have achieved legendary status. On one occasion, Greg took a Bible and threw it across the room to show the group that the Bible is nothing but a book without the power of Christ behind it. To say that the men have responded is an understatement. Throughout the hallways and cells, everyone looks to Greg for guidance, whether they go to his service or not. That’s of no consequence to Greg. “God meets us where we’re at, brother. I’m ready to help these guys wherever they are.” If Greg is executed, then the people of Alabama's Death Row will lose their pastor as well.

While the vast majority of states with capital punishment continue on a downward trend of executions, Alabama has continued to go against trend by carrying on with scheduled execution dates.  Additionally, the State of Alabama has repeatedly shown blatant incompetence in carrying out executions - they need to pause ALL executions to allow for meaningful review of their protocols.

The execution would be the 3rd in Alabama this year and the 2nd to use the nitrogen gas suffocation method.

In light of the scheduled June 10, 2025 execution of Gregory Hunt, we urge a halt to all executions in Alabama.

Mr. Hunt has ineffective assistance of counsel claims at trial and at the sentencing phase in part because the State of Alabama provides insufficient funding for the compensation of capital defense attorneys.

Mr. Hunt had a traumatic childhood due to a violent and abusive father and foster care placements however no witnesses were presented to support this issue which also promoted early onset of drug use.

The execution method to be used, nitrogen gas asphyxiation is neither quick nor painless, but agonizing and painful as was demonstrated at the executions last year. It amounts to cruel and unusual punishment which is barred by the U.S. Constitution.

Alabama ought to delay all executions to allow for a thorough study of its capital punishment process and consider the serious objections raised as to how it administers the death penalty. Alabama has repeatedly shown that it is not capable of carrying out executions, as it is botching its lethal injection process - amounting to cruel punishment and the torture of prisoners.

The vast majority of states with capital punishment continue on a downward trend of executions, Alabama has continued to go against trend by carrying on with scheduled execution dates.

We, the undersigned, ask that you do everything within your power to stop all executions in Alabama. Thank you for your time and attention to this serious matter.
