Stop the Torture - End China's Horrific Dog and Cat Meat Trade
Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai

The cruelty is horrifying. At the barbaric Yulin Dog Meat Festival, ruthless dog traders kidnap family pets — many still wearing their collars — cram them into wire crates, then kill, skin and boil them alive for a celebration.
There is simply no excuse. THIS. MUST. STOP.
At this grisly annual celebration of the summer solstice, up to 10,000 dogs are slaughtered and carved up on the streets. They may be beaten, electrocuted or torched in the sadistic belief that suffering makes their flesh taste better.
The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is scheduled to start on June 21, 2018. We must speak now out to stop the horror that looms just weeks away for these innocent dogs.
2018 is the Chinese year of the dog -- let's finally end the cruel dog and cat meat trade for good.
Sign this petition to urge the Chinese government to ban the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and all dog and cat meat, and pass an animal protection law that will end abuse in China.

I have great respect for Chinese citizens and culture, but am horrified by the dog and cat meat trade in China, where family pets and stray animals are kidnapped from home or darted with poison on the streets, then sold off to be tortured in cruel and unhygienic slaughterhouses, meat markets and restaurants.
Throughout China, an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats are killed for meat every year. Most of the animals are stolen, and selling this meat poses a public health risk to the community. I urge you to help end the cruelty by working toward banning dog and cat meat and passing an animal protection law that will prohibit the abuse of all animals in China.
