Stop ticket sales scams - support small businesses
Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton
The "secondary" ticket sales market has tormented fans and artists in numerous ways. Fans and consumers are often led to believe that the tickets they are buying are from the official venue box office - and end up paying more even though tickets are still available at a lower price from the actual venue.
Resale ticket prices on one secondary seller, SeatGeek, have doubled since 2019. Fans are often locked out of tickets at initial on-sale and forced to turn to these platforms, in excess of 40 percent markup over the ticket price. Brokers use deceptive URLs, paid advertisements, and unauthorized venues, festival, and artist imagery to make consumers think they are buying from the original market.

We, along with Fan Alliance urges the Florida House and Senate to fix the broken ticketing systems that hurt fans, artists and small businesses across the state.
HB297 and SB404 would create common sense reforms that would require:
- Full Price Disclosure: Requires ticket sellers to display the full price, including fees, upfront to consumers.
- Prohibition of Deceptive Practices: Bans speculative ticket sales for events (where the seller doesn’t actually own the ticket yet!)
- Resale Transparency: Ensures resale tickets are clearly labeled as such, with original face values disclosed.
- Accessibility: Mandates that primary ticket sellers offer an equitable number of tickets to the public, rather than withholding large quantities for exclusive presales.
- Consumer Protections: Provides enforcement mechanisms through the Florida Department of Commerce and Attorney General’s office.
HB297 and SB404 will put an end to deceptive ticketing practices so that every Floridian is protected by these common sense consumer reforms.
We urge your support.
