Stop Waymo’s Autonomous Vehicles from Expanding into Connecticut

Governor Ned Lamont, Connecticut General Assembly, Department of Motor Vehicles, CT Department of Transportation, CT State's Attorney General, and CT Comptroller

Connecticut is positioning itself to become a hub for autonomous vehicle testing. Through its pilot program and AV Task Force, the state is laying the groundwork for fully autonomous vehicles on public roads. While no commercial AV services are available yet, the state has enacted laws to enable driverless-capable vehicles to operate under specific conditions, and testing is imminent in up to four municipalities.

Waymo and other companies are watching closely. Connecticut’s openness to AVs may invite these firms to move in as they expand from places like Phoenix, San Francisco, and Austin, where the results have included dangerous traffic incidents, public confusion, and strong backlash.

As lawmakers and agencies consider how to integrate this technology, we urge them to listen to the people.

We demand:

  • A full ban on driverless car testing and commercial operation in Connecticut

  • No permits issued to companies like Waymo to launch robotaxi services in our cities and towns

  • Full transparency and public hearings before any pilot programs advance

  • Protections for app-based workers and professional drivers from job displacement

We say: Connecticut should lead with safety, not Silicon Valley hype. Don’t trade jobs and safety for speculative tech.

Sign the petition now. Tell our leaders: Protect our streets. Protect our jobs. Say NO to autonomous vehicles.

We, the undersigned, are calling on Connecticut state officials to immediately halt the pilot program and proposed integration of autonomous vehicles.

The AV Task Force and pilot program legislation signal a shift toward welcoming unproven, dangerous, and job-displacing technology to our roads. These initiatives may attract investment, but at what cost?

Across the country, communities have experienced the consequences of AV testing:

- Vehicles stopping in intersections or failing in traffic

- First responders blocked during emergencies

- Real people replaced by machines

Connecticut residents want safe streets, good jobs, and responsible public policy, not tech experiments with no accountability.

We demand:

- A full ban on driverless car testing and commercial operation in Connecticut

- No permits issued to companies like Waymo to launch robotaxi services in our cities and towns

- Full transparency and public hearings before any pilot programs advance

Protections for app-based workers and professional drivers from job displacement
We urge our city and state leaders to prioritize investments in public transit, infrastructure, and worker protections, not driverless cars.

Connecticut should lead with safety, transparency, and accountability, not reckless tech experimentation.
