Lyndale Avenue South is about to undergo a major redesign—and the future of our community depends on the choices made now. Lyndale's small businesses strongly support the Purple Plan, the most balanced design option available. While it still results in a difficult 25% reduction in on-street parking, it preserves significantly more parking than any other proposed alternative.

Accessible parking is not a luxury—it is a lifeline. Most customers arrive by car, and without nearby parking, small businesses simply won’t survive. The Purple Plan offers the best path forward to protect Lyndale’s unique character, maintain safety, and sustain local commerce.

We're calling on you to consider the long-term impacts this reconstruction will have on our neighborhood. Our key priorities are:

- Pedestrian Safety, with flashing crosswalks and improved lighting
- Customer Access, ensuring people can easily reach businesses
- Truck Delivery Access, to support daily business operations
- Bikes on Bryant!, not Lyndale—bike lanes on Lyndale would eliminate vital parking , create extra congestion by reduced roadway and parking widths, and take over valuable outdoor dining space
- Traffic Flow, by limiting design features that increase congestion
- Upgraded Bus Shelters and Stop Locations, that work for riders and don’t disrupt storefronts
- Outdoor Dining Space, that creates a lively, connected corridor
- Tree Canopy Preservation, to maintain a green, welcoming street

The Purple Plan also advances broader community values—reducing emissions by cutting down on circling for parking, promoting accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities.

We’ve seen what happens when parking is removed—just look at Hennepin Avenue, where boarded-up shops now sit where thriving businesses once stood. Let’s not repeat that mistake.

Support Lyndale’s small businesses, protect our community’s future, and ensure this redesign meets the needs of everyone.

Support the Purple Plan. Support a Safe and Vibrant Lyndale.
