Extend the Orange Line Extension to southwest Boston!
Governor Maura Healey; Interim Transportation Secretary Phillip Eng
The Orange Line Extension is gaining steam at the State House! There are proposals in support of an Orange Line Extension through Roslindale, but it could be so much more. Without an Orange Line Extension that serves the greater southwest Metro, residents will continue to deal with an overwhelming number of vehicles clogging our neighborhood streets.
You have the opportunity to share how an Orange Line Extension into southwest Boston and neighboring towns would improve the quality of life for you and your neighbors. Tell the Governor and MassDOT how frequent rapid transit for this corridor helps workers get to their jobs, brings customers to local businesses, and promotes fare equity for West Roxbury, Roslindale, and neighboring communities in the southwest metro area.
The Orange Line Extension is the investment southwest Boston and its neighbors deserve.

I support the proposed MassDOT study to extend the Orange Line into southwest Boston. The current Needham Line serving the area runs infrequently–just once per hour during the work week–and lacks affordability and reliability. The bus network serving southwest Boston and its neighbors is similarly unreliable and infrequent. This makes it hard for me and my neighbors to get to where we need to go–work, school, shopping, downtown.
I support the proposed study of the expansion to Roslindale, and I urge the state to also consider the broader opportunity to study Orange Line expansion to West Roxbury and beyond on the Needham Line. An Orange Line Extension is the investment southwest Boston and its neighbors deserve. Frequent rapid transit for this corridor helps workers get to their jobs, brings customers to local businesses, and promotes fare equity for West Roxbury, Roslindale, and neighboring communities in the southwest metro area. For neighboring suburbs, the Orange Line Extension becomes a portal to Boston.
An expanded Orange Line offers travel solutions the Needham Line doesn’t. Veterans could reliably get to the VA Hospital in West Roxbury. Millennium Park becomes a signature destination, even for those who don't have a car. Residents in Roslindale and West Roxbury could reduce the amount they need to drive. Commuters from places like Dedham and Westwood could switch to frequent rapid transit at park-and-ride locations. Service workers traveling to Roslindale and West Roxbury from points north would have a significantly shorter commute. Moreover, an expanded Orange Line supports new housing opportunities with strong access to frequent transit.
An Orange Line Extension opens up new possibilities like these and supports both economic and housing growth in places like Roslindale, West Roxbury, and neighboring communities.
