A street that brings the neighborhood together

Staked Plains runs through the heart of our neighborhood. What if a small part of it could also become a place where children can play, families take an evening walk, and neighbors spend time together?

What if we could use some of that street space differently? A temporary promenade pilot would let us try it—without committing to a permanent change.

Imagine more ways to move through the neighborhood. A promenade could connect walking, bicycling, the medians, and everyday neighborhood life. This is a concept vision; the final pilot would be developed with residents and City staff.

Start small. Try it. Learn from it.

We are asking to develop a temporary, reversible pilot on one section. One side of the divided street could become neighborhood space for walking, bicycling, sitting, and gathering, while vehicles continue on the other side.

One possible way the pilot could work. Traffic would transition to two-way operation on one side while the other becomes promenade space. The exact configuration would be developed and reviewed with City staff.

The pilot would give residents and the City a chance to experience the idea in real life, measure how it works, and make adjustments before any permanent decision is considered.

A pilot means we do not have to guess

Neighbors have reasonable questions: What happens to traffic? Will people use the space? How will nearby homes be affected?

That's exactly why we're proposing a pilot rather than a permanent change. We can measure what happens, listen closely to nearby residents, make adjustments, and remove it if it doesn't work.

The goal is to learn from real experience before making any permanent decision.

A practical path forward.

We are asking District 6 and City staff to work with the neighborhood to identify a workable pilot, listen to nearby residents, maintain access for homes, services, and emergency vehicles, and learn from what happens.

If something doesn't work, the pilot can be changed, or removed. That's the point of testing it first.
