I am writing as a DC-area resident who supports Casey Trees’ mission of expanding canopy coverage across the region. I am also a strong supporter of workers’ right to form a union and bargain collectively for a fair contract. I am heartened to learn that, after lengthy delays, Casey Trees Administration has proposed a date to come to the bargaining table.

I am confident that a fairly bargained union contract would benefit not only the workers at Casey Trees, but the organization itself, as well as the entire DC area. Bus drivers, teachers, firefighters, EMS, sanitary workers, and many journalists across the District work productively day in and day out under union contracts. Casey Trees Workers deserve the same clarity and respect that comes with union representation.

I hope Casey Trees’ Administration will follow through and bargain in good faith with their workers. I also look forward to working together to restore federal funding so furloughed workers can return to work full time. I know Casey Trees as an organization can better serve the DC area when workers and administration can amicably negotiate a contract.
