Support Community Benefits in the 78/Chicago Fire development!

We are a coalition called the CBA for 78 (Community Benefits Agreement), working to ensure the City of Chicago’s new 78 development prioritizes building an inclusive community. The construction project is being built around a stadium for the Chicago Fire along with high rise luxury apartment towers, bringing increased traffic congestion to the area. This development will directly impact the residents of the City of Chicago by reshaping housing, transportation, land use, and the day to day lives of community members. The following neighborhoods and surrounding areas will be affected immediately: Chinatown, Bronzeville, Bridgeport, McKinley Park, and Pilsen.

To prevent gentrification, displacement, and predatory real estate speculation in the neighboring south and southwest side communities we demand a Community Benefits Agreement that:

  1. Develop Equitable Housing that includes Low Income and Working Families

  2. Build Better Roadway Infrastructure to Ease Traffic Congestion

  3. Accessible Public Transportation and River Infrastructure for all Chicagoans

  4. Create Living-Wage Job Opportunities for Residents in and surrounding the 78

  5. Protect Local Small Businesses & Immigrant owned Businesses

These benefits can help build communities where people can stay and thrive in generations to come.

Hi Alderperson,

I am sending this email to express my concerns regarding the impact the 78 Development and Chicago Fire stadium will have on my community. We are already suffering from traffic congestion, property value speculation, rising rents and property taxes, and our small businesses are struggling as well. Without community benefits, this development can price out long-term residents and businesses.

As my elected official, I am asking you to represent my interest and support the negotiation for a community benefits agreement. Private development should benefit all Chicagoans. The development as it stands does not provide accessibility and housing for all income families nor guarantees local hiring or living wages. A Community Benefits Agreement must be in place to mitigate these concerns and protect local residents and businesses.
