Support HB35 and create safer prisons in Virginia
Members of the Virginia House Appropriations Committee
Virginia has a solitary confinement problem. Too many people are held in isolation for too long without adequate care or safeguards.
HB35, a bill to end extended solitary confinement in Virginia and provide care for people while they are in solitary, is before the House of Delegates Appropriations Committee. We'll share this petition and your comments with committee members before they vote on HB35.
When you sign this petition you show these Delegates that Virginians support ending long term solitary confinement!

Too many people are held in isolation for too long without adequate care or safeguards in Virginia's prisons.
The Virginia Department of Corrections has placed a FIS of $3.6 million to provide for additional mental health clinicians and casework counselors. We believe this is a fair and realistic number that will support better care for incarcerated individuals, create better outcomes for their treatment while incarcerated, and lead to lower rates of recidivism and safer communities upon their release.
These funds will do more than create safer prisons, they'll create safer communities.
Please support HB35 for safer prisons and communities in Virginia.
