This petition is an opportunity for members of the Hofstra community, friends, students, parents, alumni, and more, to show their solidarity with Hofstra faculty as they negotiate their upcoming collective bargaining agreement. Faculty are committed to the health and success of Hofstra University. For instance, in 2020, they waived their contractually-guaranteed raises during the Covid-19 outbreak in the interest of helping the University navigate an uncertain financial future. These raises were never restored despite the University flourishing financially, leading faculty to fall behind as inflation has risen. Faculty should be recognized for their commitment to the University and its students in the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement. The negotiations have been challenging, and there are still many hurdles to overcome to ensure that a new contract will allow faculty the ability to give students the world-class education they have come to expect at Hofstra.

We are students, parents, alumni, neighbors, and others invested in the success of Hofstra University. We urge you to reach a fair contract with the faculty Union that recognizes the hard work and value the faculty brings to the University. Faculty deserve fair raises, maintenance of their health and retirement benefits, and improvements to their working conditions, not takeaways that will leave them with less and with additional administrative burdens that will serve only to distract from the educational mission at Hofstra. We stand united with the faculty in these goals and look forward to a successful resolution to the negotiations.
