Turn Temporary Housing Into Permanent Homes

San Francisco Board of Supervisors

With homelessness a top concern among San Francisco residents, our city now has a time-sensitive opportunity to provide permanent supportive housing for hundreds of our unhoused neighbors.

Using federal funding, San Francisco can purchase a former hotel at 1800 Sutter Street to stably house people who are working hard to exit homelessness. This property has been utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide temporary housing for people experiencing homelessness, and now is the opportune time to establish these homes as permanent supportive housing.

We strongly support converting these temporary homes into permanent homes with supportive services because permanent supportive housing is a proven solution to ending the cycle of homelessness and keeping residents stably housed. Although it's hard to understand why anyone would want to throw people back on the streets and make SF's homelessness crisis even worse, some NIMBY businesses and neighbors are trying to block this initiative.

It’s in everyone’s best interests, especially businesses, to prevent people from living on the streets and that’s why it’s so critical that the Board of Supervisors hears from you!
