San Diego’s tourism industry is thriving. Hotels are packed, restaurants are full, and tourists are spending billions. But the San Diego workers who make it all possible—housekeepers, janitors, stagehands, and hospitality staff—are barely getting by.
While out-of-town billionaire corporations rake in record-breaking profits, the people who are the backbone of this industry are struggling to pay rent, put food on the table, and keep up with San Diego’s skyrocketing cost of living. It’s time to demand justice for the working class and put an end to corporate greed.
We are calling on the San Diego City Council to pass the Tourism Worker Fair Pay Ordinance, which would:✅ Raise the minimum wage to $25 per hour for entertainment, hospitality, and janitorial workers in the tourism sector.
✅ Ensure annual increases tied to the cost of living, so wages keep pace with the high cost of living.
✅ Hold billionaire corporations accountable for paying San Diego workers what they deserve.
Why This Matters:
➡️ San Diego’s cost of living is out of control. A single worker needs to earn $30.71 per hour just to afford basic necessities. A family of four needs more than $53 per hour to survive. Meanwhile, many hotel and tourism workers earn far below what’s needed to live in our city.
➡️ The tourism industry’s wealth is built on working people’s labor. Tourists spent $14.3 billion in San Diego last year, fueling massive profits for hotel chains and corporate CEOs. Yet the workers who clean the rooms, serve the meals, and maintain the venues are left behind.
➡️ Other cities are already taking action. Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Anaheim have raised wages for tourism workers. San Diego must follow suit or risk falling further behind in treating workers with dignity and respect.
We cannot allow billionaire corporations to extract wealth from our working families while the very people who make the industry run are forced into poverty. It’s time to stand up, fight back, and demand fair wages!

Los hoteles están llenos, los restaurantes están a tope y los turistas están gastando miles de millones. Pero los trabajadores de San Diego que hacen todo esto posible — personal de limpieza, encargados de mantenimiento, técnicos de eventos y empleados de servicios turísticos — apenas llegan a fin de mes.
Mientras las corporaciones multimillonarias extranjeras cosechan ganancias récord, las personas que son el pilar de esta industria luchan para pagar el alquiler, poner comida en la mesa y mantenerse al día con el costo de vida en aumento en San Diego.
Hacemos un llamado al Consejo Municipal de San Diego para que apruebe la Ordenanza de Salarios Justos para los Trabajadores del Turismo, que:
✅ Aumente el salario mínimo a $25 por hora para trabajadores de entretenimiento, hospitalidad y limpieza en el sector de turismo.
✅ Asegurar aumentos anuales vinculados al costo de vida, para que los salarios se mantengan al ritmo del alto costo de vida.
✅ Hacer responsables a las corporaciones multimillonarias por pagar a los trabajadores de San Diego lo que merecen.
Por Que Esto Importa:
➡️ El costo de vida en San Diego está fuera de control. Un trabajador solo tiene que ganar $30.71 por hora para cubrir necesidades básicas. Una familia de cuatro necesita más de $53 por hora para sobrevivir. Mientras tanto, muchos trabajadores de hoteles y del sector turístico ganan mucho menos de lo necesario para vivir en nuestra ciudad.
➡️ La riqueza de la industria del turismo se basa en el trabajo de las personas. Los turistas gastaron $14.3 mil millones en San Diego el año pasado, lo que generó enormes ganancias para las cadenas hoteleras y los CEO corporativos. Sin embargo, los trabajadores que limpian las habitaciones, sirven las comidas y mantienen los lugares quedan atrás.
➡️ Otras ciudades ya están tomando acción. Los Ángeles, Long Beach y Anaheim han aumentado los salarios para los trabajadores del turismo. San Diego debe seguir el ejemplo o arriesgarse a quedarse atrás en el trato a los trabajadores con dignidad y respeto.
No podemos permitir que las corporaciones multimillonarias exploten a nuestras familias trabajadoras mientras las mismas personas que hacen funcionar la industria se ven obligadas a vivir en la pobreza. ¡Es hora de levantarse, luchar y exigir salarios justos!
