Support MPS Students and Educators for Safe and Stable Schools

Superintendent Graff and the Minneapolis Board of Education

We, the undersigned, are Minneapolis Public School parents, families, and community members who publicly support the demands of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and Educational Support Professionals (MFT59) to improve the educational environment for all our district’s students.

In our communities, the challenges, disruption, and hardship of the COVID pandemic have been interconnected with the uprisings following the police murder of George Floyd and the chaotic Comprehensive District Redesign. More than ever, our students need stability and support. We feel that the core demands of MFT59 - a living wage for Education Support Professionals, recruitment and retention of educators or color, mental health supports, smaller class sizes, competitive compensation for licensed staff, and more - will immediately deliver on these needs.

Thankfully, due to an influx of federal and state money, and broad latitude for where to allocate it, these changes have never been more possible.

As with all public budgets, the MPS budget is a moral document, and we expect our school system to spend its money on the improvements that will immediately and directly improve the lives of both students and staff. We urge MPS leadership to agree to the MFT59 demands as a way to do so.
