Support new homes at 618 Octavia Street

San Francisco Planning Commission

San Francisco is currently in the midst of a severe housing shortage, displacement, and affordability crisis. In order to alleviate the city’s housing problems, it is vital that more well-designed and well-located housing is built. That’s why the Housing Action Coalition is proud to support a new project at 618 - 630 Octavia Street that would bring 40 new homes to San Francisco’s upper Hayes Valley Neighborhood.

Some of the project's many highlights include:

  1. Below Market Rate Homes. This project will designate 10 permanently subsidized homes.

  2. Sustainable features. The project is solar ready and capable of achieving LEED silver certification. Additionally, the light wells on the property have been transformed to serve as courtyards which will help redirect storm water out of the drains and back into the ground.

  3. Transit-rich location. These homes are located within easy access to several public transportation options, including bus lines, BART, and MUNI.

  4. Family friendly homes. 70% of the homes will be 2 or 3-bedroom units, providing more options for families to live in San Francisco.

Dear San Francisco Planning Commission,

I’m writing to express my strong support for the proposed project at 618-630 Octavia Street. As you well know, San Francisco is in desperate need of more well-designed, well-located housing and this project would add 40 new, high-quality homes, 10 of which will be Below Market Rate.

In addition to housing, the project will encourage environmentally-friendly transportation by being located in close proximity to several public transportation options, including bus lines, BART, and MUNI.

Further, the project is solar ready and capable of achieving LEED silver certification. Additionally, the property’s light wells have been transformed to serve as courtyards which will redirect storm water out of drains and back into the ground.

Last, the majority of the homes (70%) will be family sized units, making it easier for families to find a place to live.

San Francisco is experiencing a severe housing shortage, affordability, and displacement crisis, and I urge you to support bringing 40 new homes to 618-630 Octavia Street.
