Petition to the city of St. Catharines to declare GMLands a public health emergency

The 55 acres of vacant land on Ontario Street known as GM Lands is a blight on the community and the City. It is an eyesore, a safety and security risk, an environmental disaster and a rat-filled threat to the health and well-being of the adjoining communities.

“Anyone driving down Ontario Street — one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares — would be hard pressed not to notice the blight that is the former GM property. With buildings that are half-torn down and large lots filled with piles of brick and debris. St. Catharines Standard October 2018

Allowing vacant land in the middle of the city to remain in this condition depresses property values and undercuts St. Catharines attempts to build reputation as a progressive city with a bright future.

If you agree that the City should act to clean up this blight on our community, please add your name to the petition below:

I am a resident of St. Catharines. I am alarmed by the state of the former GM factory on Ontario Street known as GM Lands.

In addition to being an eyesore in the middle of the city, in its current state it is a safety, security and public health hazard and has devalued our properties in the adjoining neighbourhoods.

By signing this petition I urge the council of the city of St. Catharines per the remedies provided by Property Standards By-law 204-208, to proceed without delay to do whatever is necessary to clean up the GM site and make it safe and secure.
