REI Union Berkeley Workers Holding Signs Explaining Why They're Voting Union YES

On June 21st, we, the workers at REI Berkeley, filed for our union election with the National Labor Relations Board, and presented store management and corporate with a letter asking them to recognize our union.

We chose to file for election because we know the real way forward is with a union. We’re voting YES because we know having a union means having a voice and our benefits guaranteed in writing.

REI has been using textbook union-busting tactics meant to scare us out of voting Union Yes. They’ve told us our relationship with management will have to change, our existing benefits and retirement will go away, and a union representative will be required to attend our reviews. They even told someone that they would need the union’s approval to go on vacation.

Over the last month, the company has tried to spread this misinformation by:

  • Pulling us into one-on-one meetings and walk and talks with management to discuss how having a union would negatively impact our work at REI

  • Bringing in managers from different stores to follow union supporters and listen in on our conversations

  • Distributing and posting anti-union flyers in our break room that use language that is neither neutral nor objective but claims to be both

A progressive company is a pro-union company. REI needs "start from a place of respect," "courageously embrace change,” and "strive for harmony in work and life.” We’re organizing at REI Berkeley to make sure these principles are reflected in how REI treats us and our hard work.

We are calling on REI to immediately stop union busting and remain neutral as we prepare to vote in our union election on July 27th.

Please sign our petition and tell REI management to stop union busting and give us a free and fair union election.

(Not to mention, we’ll send you the latest updates on how you can support our campaign!)

REI, we are asking you to immediately stop union busting and remain neutral as Berkeley workers prepare to vote in their union election on July 27th.

The real way forward is with a union, and these workers deserve to have a voice and their benefits guaranteed in writing.

We are calling on you to end the spread of misinformation by:
- Telling management to stay neutral and not discuss how having a union would negatively impact work at REI
- Sending the managers you brought in to follow union supporters and listen to their conversations back to their home stores
- Stopping the distribution of any anti-union flyers that use language that is neither neutral nor objective

A progressive company is a pro-union company. REI needs "start from a place of respect," "courageously embrace change,” and "strive for harmony in work and life.” These principles need to be reflected in how you treat your workers.

REI, please stop union busting and give workers in Berkeley a free and fair union election.
