Support the Pinecrest Bicycle and Pedestrian Grid - Improve Safety Now!
Pinecrest Village Council
Fellow Pinecrest residents, we have a big opportunity to improve our safety, mobility, and quality of life. The Village Council is exploring the idea of creating a bicycle and pedestrian grid across Pinecrest, connecting our homes to schools, parks, and shopping. This is urgently needed because pedestrian and cyclist fatalities in Miami-Dade County are almost double the national average, according to Transit Alliance Miami. You can help Pinecrest lead the way in transforming car-centric South Florida by creating safe paths to get around our village and reduce traffic. Show the Council your support and sign the petition now!

As Bike Pinecrest, we have organized a series of community bike rides, escorted by the Pinecrest Police Department because it would otherwise be too dangerous to bike across the village with our kids. Some of our rides have drawn over 50 participants, including families with children and riders of all ages. Our rides have shown that when bicycling in Pinecrest is made safer, more people are willing to participate.
Safe bicycle infrastructure is already a huge success in Europe, especially in the Netherlands, where Dutch children are more than nine times less likely to die in traffic than American children. Our opportunity here in South Florida is even greater because we have year-round cycling weather. To learn from their experience, the village government has been working with the Dutch Urban Design Team and the Dutch Cycling Embassy.

The Dutch Urban Design Team has led a resident-driven process in our municipal center with input from your neighbors to identify the important pedestrian and cycling corridors in Pinecrest. Based on our feedback, they have proposed a plan for how we could build shared-use paths to connect our village.

This project will transform our village, but it will take years to realize. To get started, the Village Council will consider a proposal for “Phase 1” shown in yellow on the map above, which would create a cycling backbone for the village:
- 67th Avenue, north to south across the village
- 120th Street, east to west across the village
Phase 1 will create important connectivity across the village to destinations like Palmetto High School, Bet Shira Congregation / True North Classical Academy, St. Louis Catholic Church, both Gulliver Prep campuses, Mas Park, and dining and shopping along US-1. It will also connect us with regional cycling corridors like the Underline, the South Dade Transitway Corridor, and the Old Cutler Trail. Imagine how wonderful it would be to safely bike to school, to dinner, to your friend’s house, or to the farmers market on Sundays.
We Need Your Help!
The future of the bicycle and pedestrian grid is at risk because there are lots of other projects competing for budget and attention on the Council's agenda and they won't all be funded. The Council has some major decisions to make about where to invest for our village’s future, and there are significant hurdles to moving forward. They need to hear from you, so please sign this petition now!

UPDATE: Thanks for all your support, the momentum since launching this petition has been incredible. Here are some comments from your neighbors:
- Ariel L. - "All In for this initiative. Looking forward to my kids taking bicycles to school safely.
- Thank you!"
- Patricia Z. - "I live extremely close to my son’s school and I don’t feel comfortable to send him walking or biking due to safety concerns. Every day I witness lack of security for pedestrians and bikers. We can do it better!"
- Camille C. - "As an urban planner and Pinecrest resident, I fully support the development of a connected bicycle and pedestrian grid throughout our village. This initiative represents a meaningful investment in public safety, mobility, and long-term quality of life. Our region’s high rate of pedestrian and cyclist fatalities highlights the urgent need for safer, more accessible alternatives to driving. A well-designed active transportation network would give residents real mobility choices, reduce local traffic congestion, and make it easier to connect with schools, parks, and commercial areas without relying on a car. This project aligns with best practices in community design—prioritizing people over vehicles, encouraging healthier lifestyles, and fostering a more vibrant and resilient local economy. Pinecrest has the opportunity to lead by example in a region that has long been shaped by car-dependency. I urge the Village Council to take bold action and move this vision forward."
- Mindy D. - "Let’s work to make Pinecrest the most pedestrian-friendly town in Florida!"
- Gloria J. - "As someone who has been riding in Miami-Dade County for over 40 years, and whose family has been an integral part of the micromobility industry on a national and international level, I am well aware of the statistics regarding cycling and pedestrian fatalities here. The Village has always been an innovator on many issues, the recent 2025 Florida Municipal Achievement Award for Environmental Stewardship being the latest example. It makes me proud to be a Pinecrest resident. Let’s not stop there. Help Pinecrest residents ride and walk safely throughout the Village, and connect with another innovative project, The Underline. I support the Pinecrest Bicycle & Pedestrian Grid and hope you will do the same with funding for Phase 1."
- Piero S. - "More bike lanes and pedestrian sidewalks for Pinecrest! Let’s reduce the danger of riding and walking in our neighborhood"
- Victoria F. - "More space for bikes and pedestrians would improve safety and overall quality of life for residents"

Dear Pinecrest Village Council,
We are writing to express our strong support and enthusiasm for Phase 1 of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Grid. Walking and bicycling around the village have become too dangerous because of speeding cars and distracted driving.
Building shared-use paths across the village on 120th street and 67th avenue will begin a new chapter by creating a safe mobility backbone for our families and children. We urge you to support this project to improve our safety and quality of life, and continue to make Pinecrest the best place to live in South Florida.
Sincerely,
Your Pinecrest Neighbors
