Support the Renaming of Confederate Street to “Frazier Place”
Background: On July 23, 2024, Council Member Peluso introduced Ordinance 2024-543 to rename Confederate Street (between Hubbard and Liberty Streets) to “Frazier Place.” This change honors Ben Frazier, Jr., a distinguished journalist and civil rights leader who passed away in June 2023.
Why This Matters: Ben Frazier, Jr. dedicated his life to fighting for social, racial, and economic justice. He was a pioneer as Jacksonville's first African American news anchor and made significant contributions to civil rights. Renaming this street is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
Key Points:
- Ordinance Number: 2024-543
- Current Street Name: Confederate Street
- New Street Name: Frazier Place
- Reason: To honor Ben Frazier, Jr. for his civil rights work and contributions to Jacksonville.
- Approval Status: The re-naming has been approved by both the 911 Emergency Addressing Advisory Committee and the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Committee.
What You Can Do: Support this important change by signing the petition. Help us honor Ben Frazier, Jr. and ensure that his contributions to our community are remembered and celebrated.
Let’s come together to make this meaningful change and pay tribute to a local hero who made a significant impact on our city. Thank you for your support!
