TAKE ACTION: Tell SDPD to Publish the Reports
San Diego Police Department
ICE IN SAN DIEGO
SDPD WAS THERE.
For 15 months, Councilmember Elo-Rivera has asked Chief Wahl to tell the public when SDPD is at the scene of a federal immigration enforcement action: why officers were there, what they did, and what they didn't do.
For 15 months, the response has been that the issue is 'too controversial.'
Federal immigration enforcement is terrorizing our communities. Parents are afraid to walk their kids to school. Good, decent people are afraid to drive to work. Families go to bed not knowing if their loved ones will be home tomorrow. Masked agents are assaulting San Diegans in broad daylight in front of police officers.
Yet the communities being terrorized by ICE continue to hear silence from the leader of the department that is supposed to be protecting and serving us.
When SDPD shows up to those scenes, coordinated or not, San Diegans have valid questions. They deserve to know why their police department was there and what it did.
Transparency is essential for trust, and trust is essential for safety. That's why we wrote San Diego's Due Process & Safety Ordinance. When SDPD responds to a call involving federal immigration enforcement, the Chief must publish a public report within three business days.
SDPD continues to choose to ignore the importance of transparency.
But we’re done waiting. It’s time to speak up and speak out.
TELL CHIEF WAHL:
STOP HIDING SDPD’S PRESENCE AT ICE ENFORCEMENT. PUBLISH THE REPORTS.

Dear Chief Wahl,
Federal immigration enforcement has been terrorizing San Diego neighborhoods. Parents, children, longtime community members — regardless of immigration status — are scared to leave their homes. Masked agents are being deployed in the streets, hunting people based on how they look, kidnapping neighbors, and separating families. San Diego Police Department has been present during many of these violent and traumatic events.
Through it all, you and the San Diego Police Department have remained silent. This is an abandonment of your duty to protect and serve all San Diegans.
At a minimum, if SDPD shows up at federal immigration enforcement actions, the public has a right to know why, who was there, and what actions were taken.
The Due Process and Safety Ordinance prescribes transparency from SDPD, requiring public reports to be made if the police department responds to any federal immigration enforcement activity in San Diego.
So, where are the reports?
As long as SDPD chooses to ignore the importance of transparency, we will continue to advocate.
I am calling on you to be transparent, adhere to the law and fulfill your duty.
