The tax system in America is fundamentally unfair, letting the ultra-wealthy get away with paying little or no taxes. It’s been this way for decades.

Billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have paid $0 in federal income taxes in some recent years.1 This will only change if Congress does something about it.

Senator Ron Wyden has a solution. The Democratic Chair of the Senate Finance Committee just introduced the Billionaires Income Tax, which would ensure that billionaires start paying taxes on their wealth gains. It’s time Musk, Bezos, and all billionaires are forced to pay their fair share of taxes.

Billionaires in the United States are now worth a whopping $5.2 TRILLION. Their wealth has grown 78% since the Trump tax cuts passed the GOP-controlled House and Senate in 2017.2

The Billionaires Income Tax would raise $557 billion over 10 years and only apply to taxpayers whose net worth either exceeds $1 billion or whose income exceeds $100 million for three consecutive years.3 When billionaires’ wealth is taxed, we can put critical funds towards the social safety net, public education, health care, infrastructure, and critical government services.

By ensuring that the ultra-wealthy pay what they truly owe, we can build a livable society for working people.
