Tell 2020 candidates: restore net neutrality!

The next president has the power to restore the strong net neutrality rules and broadband protections repealed by Trump-appointed FCC Chair Ajit Pai. But in four hours of primary debates on June 26th and 27th, not a single question was asked about net neutrality or broadband, and none of the candidates mentioned it. This is a big problem. Big Cable is working hard behind the scenes to install another shill like Ajit Pai. We can’t let that happen.

We’re campaigning on all fronts to win back a free and open Internet. But there’s a chance protections won’t be restored before the next president is elected. We need to make sure all candidates are committed to restoring the net neutrality and broadband protections we’ve lost. The sad truth is, both Democrats and Republicans have an ugly history of appointing FCC commissioners who are in bed with the telecom industry. What’s more, many of the candidates have taken plenty of money from the industry. For example, Kamala Harris took nearly $60,000 from the industry. Joe Biden took nearly $130,000, and Cory Booker took more than $170,000. Amy Klobuchar? Over $300,000.

This means we can’t count on any of them to do the right thing on their own. We have to make sure net neutrality is front and center on their agendas. Tell 2020 candidates: “Pledge to ensure that any FCC Commissioners you appoint will make restoring and enforcing strong net neutrality rules and broadband competition protections a top priority, and to publicly call for restoration of the 2015 Open Internet Order in your first 100 days in office.”
