Tell CBS Leaders: Don’t Let Bari Weiss Censor Debate
President and CEO of CBS George Cheeks
CBS is shrinking the debate—on purpose. CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss just openly framed her role as redrawing the lines around “acceptable debate and acceptable American politics and culture.”
But America doesn’t need a narrow, right-tilted vision of who gets to speak. We need the truth, and that truth includes progressive voices fighting for justice, workers’ rights, racial equity, peace, and democracy.
Bari Weiss is still new to her position, and so are her bosses. We need to show CBS’ new owners and stakeholders that if they shut out our voices, we’ll change the channel.
Tell CBS President and CEO George Cheeks: “Don’t let Bari Weiss censor debate. Restore real journalism with real voices.”
If Bari Weiss gets to decide which viewpoints are “acceptable,” the public will be left with a rigged conversation.
Weiss already announced plans for a right-wing version of The View—which insiders are framing as “revenge” against the show that previously passed her over for a different conservative voice. There’s no telling who she’ll silence or lash out against next.
We need bold reporting that challenges lies and exposes corruption, not score-settling and sanitized debate curated to keep powerful people comfortable. And CBS needs viewers—something they’ll lose if the news is kept “safe.”
Add your name now and show CBS that viewers demand news that serves the public—not political gatekeepers.
