Tell Congress: Make Polluters Pay for Climate Disasters!
U.S. Congress
Hurricane Helene. Hurricane Milton. Wildfires. Floods. Heatwaves.
These extreme weather events are devastating communities across the country, and it's working Americans who are paying the price, while the fossil fuel companies who caused the climate crisis continue to rake in billions in profits.
The government estimates that climate damages are already costing the US upwards of $150 billion a year. The damage from Hurricane Helene and wildfires like those in Los Angeles is likely to cost more than $50 billion. Now, FEMA is running out of money and doesn't have the staff to respond to these disasters, let alone help us prepare for the future.
Meanwhile, the fossil fuel industry continues to rake in record profits while we all pay the price of their pollution. Big Oil's own scientists have known since the 1970s that the ongoing use of their product would lead to catastrophic climate impacts, but instead of warning the public, they spent millions lobbying against climate action.
It's time to Make Polluters Pay.
Last September, members of Congress introduced the first ever Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act that would raise $1 trillion to help respond to climate disasters by making Big Oil companies pay a fine corresponding to their past pollution. The money can then be used to repair bridges, help homeowners, and invest in the most vulnerable communities.
Making Polluters Pay is fair, effective, and it won't raise energy prices. It's time Congress do their job and pass immediate disaster relief and then the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act.
Climate change isn't just a tragedy, it's a crime. Let's hold Big Oil accountable.

We call on Congress to deliver crucial emergency relief for hurricane-affected communities and pass the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act.
Our communities are being devastated by hurricanes and other extreme weather events, and working Americans are paying the price, while the fossil fuel companies who contributed the most to this crisis continue to rake in billions.
You need to do your job: deliver immediate relief to the hurricane-impacted communities and then pass the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act, which will raise $1 trillion from fossil fuel companies to help us confront future climate disasters.
