The time for Reparations is now! We call on Congress, both House and Senate leadership, to immediately craft, consider and enact Federal Reparations legislation Black American-Slavery Descendants.
For centuries our Government has ignored the one real solution to our nation’s deep and worsening racial and economic condition; the only real chance we have at closing the racial wealth gulf for good. That solution is a strong program of Federal Reparations for Black American-Slavery Descendants.
Only strong Federal Reparations can correct the current impact of year after year, decade after decade, century after century of stolen wealth and opportunity. Our own Government bears responsibility for Slavery, Jim Crow and the ongoing oppression of Black Americans who descend from U.S Slavery. Although, states and local governments definitely did their part to harm and hold Black American-Slavery Descendants back from opportunity, nothing done at the state or local level was possible without the help of the Federal Government. Therefore, our Federal Government has a responsibility to do everything and anything it can to fix what it broke. What it must do, specifically, is Federal Reparations.
We’ve tried one size fits all solutions to the problem of race in America: they don’t work for us. We’ve been personally responsible, worked hard, got educated, started businesses and raised our families. We’ve fought in every war. And still, after all of that, we remain at the bottom of America.
A strong Federal Reparations program is necessary now.
