CORE Spaces is rotten. The Chicago-based developer has multiple projects underway in Ann Arbor, where they are actively hiring contractors who exploit their workers through 1099 misclassification.

Misclassified workers work without workers' compensation insurance, unemployment insurance, and other basic protections afforded to employees. They also aren't entitled to overtime pay. Meanwhile, their employers avoid paying for these things in addition to payroll taxes, all while CORE profits.

On top of that, Michigan contractors who follow the rules and treat their workers right can't win when the game is rigged.
